you betta belize it!

we made it back safe and sound last night. we had a really nice trip and it was good to be out there, secluded but around friendly people (we were about 30 miles off the coast of belize). the diving was actually quite challenging with some rough entries, exits, and strong currents. we both improved our diving skills quite a bit and i had the chance to practice my new rescue diver skills unfortunately. some highlights of what we saw include turtles, sting rays, eagle rays, jellyfish, queen parrotfish, spotted toadfish (found only in belize), scorpion fish, nurse shark, caribbean reef sharks, huge stalagtites in the blue hole, permit, lobster, live conch, octopus, among lots of others!

here are a few shots. i haven't gone through the pictures and tried to color correct them yet, so i'm not sure what they'll end up looking like, but this is what they look like now.

the island we were on (as they say, "there's remote... then there's this place")

7.5' nurse shark... he was sleepy... no zoom used on this picture

half moon jelly

looking up a wall from about 110 feet

practicing my buoyancy!

stingray... no zoom used here either. take a look at that barb! (we did have a moment of silence for steve while down there by the way.)

permit (one of the hardest fish to catch... fly fishermen quest after these for years and may never catch one)

short video of a flounder... not sure if this will come through
