We've had a great three days of diving at Caño Island. There's not much to report because we've had the same day for three days in a row - up by 6, breakfast at 7, leave for the boat at 7:30. We do one dive, have an early lunch and chill on the beach at Caño for a bit, then go back out and do the second dive. These have been much deeper dives than we did in the Keys when we got certified so you're supposed to wait about 2 hours between dives. We've been going to roughly 60 feet for 40 minutes 2x day and you have to give your body time for the nitrogen to work its way out of your bloodstream. On the way to Caño we've seen dolphins and the tips of spotted eagle rays. They aren't bottlenose dolphins like in Florida and I'll have to look up all the things we've seen at some point. We were hoping to see some whales but no luck there. The day before we went diving for the first time they spotted a humpback on the way out to Caño.
We've dived 4 different sites: Shipwreck Reef, The Anchor, El Diablo (Devil's Reef), and Shark Cave. The diving is mostly fish, all species and colors and sizes. We have been in the middle of several schools and it's really neat to be totally surrounded by God's amazing creatures. The best part is that there's no trail of us ever being there - we touch nothing, we take nothing, we leave it for others to enjoy. We get to catch a small glimpse of how all things work together in a world different than ours. Some of the more notable things we've seen have been turtles, white-tip reef sharks (at all dive sites, but the largest were at Shark Cave), starfish, octopus, spiny lobster, frog fish, mackerel, stingrays, parrot fish, and moray eels (the kind that could swallow you whole). I tried to take some pictures on a couple of underwater cameras but we went deeper than it says you're supposed to go with the cameras and the clarity is very poor so I'm not sure much will come out.
Tomorrow we have a day off before flying back to San Jose and then driving to the Carribean side on Sunday. We are debating on whether or not to do a ziplining activity or horseback riding on the beach tomorrow, or just relaxing the whole day. What would Flat Joshua and Flat Everett like to do?
